Administration Concentration: Who It’s For
The administration concentration within our doctor of education program is designed for individuals seeking a terminal degree and administrative licensure. Primarily, it is designed for:
- Principals
- Vice principals
- District office administrators
- Superintendents
If you already have your administrative license – Principal License or Professional Administrative License (ProAL) – you can transfer 12 credits into the program.
If you are a P-20 teacher leader seeking a terminal degree in educational leadership, a faculty member at a community college or public/private college or university, or associated with P-20 governmental agencies or nonprofits, check out our instructional design and development concentration.
Courses
The courses for the administration concentration are the same as those for our administrative licensure programs. The administrative licensure program will fulfill the 12 concentration credit requirements for students who select this track.
Our hybrid format is designed so that you can keep your full-time job, prioritize life obligations and pursue your doctorate.

Students who choose the administration concentration will complete one of these two administrative licensure programs:

Principal License (Tier I)
The Principal License program prepares competent and ethical leaders to meet the personnel needs of schools in Oregon through partnerships with public and private schools. -
Professional Administrative License (ProAL/Tier II)
The ProAL emphasizes the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission’s standards for demonstrating district-level competency in content knowledge, skills and dispositions while matching experienced practitioner-mentors with administrator candidates.
Outcomes
Upon completing the administration concentration, you will:
- Understand the developmental needs of students at all authorization levels
- Be able to conduct and use research as a tool for improving a learning organization
- Understand the goals of the Oregon Content Standards and how to use them as a guide in assessing your own school’s goals and evaluating progress
- Be prepared to lead teachers in helping students meet the standards and in continuing their professional development
Transfer Credits
Save time and money where you can. Upon approval by the department, you may transfer up to 6 credit hours beyond the master’s degree into the EdD program. Those who choose the administration concentration who have previously completed an administrative licensure program may transfer in their credits/license to satisfy 12 credit hours of this track.
You must have earned a grade of “B” or better for a course to be considered for transfer. All transfer courses must be post-masters from a regionally accredited institution. Your transfer credit will be evaluated by the faculty upon admission to the program.

For candidates TRANSFERRING IN administrative licensure at admission
We accept 12 credit hours of transfer from the Principal License or ProAL.
